This has turned out to the hospital visit from hell. The treatment I received during my visit was mediocre at best. The worst part was the billing on the backend. The long and short of it is, they ended up sending me to collections for $150 (my copay) while Cigna and the hospital reconciled the balance of $7K. I never got any notice from the hospital once they reconciled the balance so I wasn't clear what I actually owed. The billing department NEVER answers the phone. They never return your phone calls. I had to pretend to be a lawyer calling the legal department to get a live person on the phone. Once you get someone on the phone, they are polite but unhelpful. They won't put your account on hold while the insurance company resubmits the claim. You basically have to pay the balance or risk being sent to collections. My advice...Avoid visiting this hospital if possible. Demand to pay your copay during the visit. (Don't wait for the billing to be reconciled.) When calling the billing department, hit the prompts to call the legal clerk who can then transfer you to a live person. This was a really unpleasant experience. I really don't understand why it happens to so many people who visit this hospital.
