The MGM is a mixed bag.
The MGM is a mixed bag.
On the upside it's huge, which means lots of restaurant and bar options, a sprawling (sometimes disorienting) gaming floor, and the ability to accommodate very large groups. The staff is generally very friendly, the concierge is amazing, and the location is convenient for exploring the strip. On site they have a Top Golf, a Cirque show, a hip-hop dance show, a solid comedy club, as well as a popular night club.
On the downside it's pretty old. The rooms could use some updating, hot water for baths/showers is a luxury (I took multiple Luke warm showers because the water never got hot), the AC doesn't keep the rooms very cold. The maintenance staff are either very slow or extremely over worked. It took them over two days to send someone to my room to fix a malfunctioning television. Considering the size of the property, the on-site shopping is very limited, not to mention seriously overpriced.
Depending on what you are looking for, you may consider these other properties instead... The Mirage: part of the MGM family, recently renovated rooms, reasonable prices, big enough but not too big. Caesars Palace: Giant property, lots of great shopping and dining options, amazing showroom, upgraded rooms. The Cosmopolitan: affiliated with Marriott, rooms with actual usable balconies, smaller more intimate feel, great rewards program, great restaurants, awesome intimate venue for concerts.
