If you have a short lay over of less than 6 hours, then you should use Dubai international airport which saves you time and gets you up to three hours of stay at the same rate as one night stay at Holiday inn express. If you have 8 hours or more of stay and your stay is not covered by airline, then you can save a significant amount of money by getting out of airport (visa on arrival is a breeze for US citizens) and taking free shuttle to holiday inn express.
One night stay at This facility will cost you just over $100. Three hours stay at Dubai international airport inside the terminal will also cost you the same. But a stay of over three hours in Dubai international Hotel will cost you over $200 and that is where you get much better value for money at Holiday inn express, without compromising anything on cleanliness or comfort. But please note that if you come out of airport and walk to the hotel shuttle area, you will be exposed to outside weather and depending upon time of the year, that can be an issue. The free shuttle runs every 30 minutes between hotel and airport. Although Google maps says that the hotel is only 2100 feet away, it takes 10-20 minutes to reach hotel by shuttle or taxi. You can t walk to the hotel from airport. There is a lunch buffet for about $15 and dinner buffet for about $18. Alternatively, you can get food from the bar at other times. Free breakfast is included and if you check out before breakfast, they also offer free boxed breakfast.
