Review of WyzAnt Tutoring

I strongly believe that no one should do business ...

I strongly believe that no one should do business with Wyzant. While I had a wonderful tutor, Wyzant as a company is horrible! They violate the ADA, customer support is rude and useless. Wyzant doesn t use standard website conventions and best practices; WyzAnt tutoring doesn t seem to understand how terms and conditions work, let alone that a company may want to forbid class action law suits but they cannot prevent a class action lawsuit when they violate federal law.
Be specially wary of Tim the team manager at Wyzant, to whom my situation was escalated. Tim at Wyzant is unprofessional, extremely rude and rather dismissive; moreover I caught him in a number of outright lies for which I have documented evidence.
Understand: I have disabilities, (which I told Wyzant and my tutor at first contact), but I m not stupid. The first time I discovered that the recording of a two-hour lesson (for which I paid more than $110) was missing all but a few minutes, I discussed it with my tutor (a doctor and adjunct professor) who said to contact Wyzant. Lesson recordings is a feature they offer; it s also an accommodation made necessary by my disability and one that must be provided according to the ADA.
The first response from Wyzant support made some weak excuses and offered me $20 credit. For a $110 lesson? When I explained again why the recorded lesson is important, support escalated my issue to Tim the team manager at Wyzant. His response was truly horrid. He extended a $60 credit and said the recording feature was new and they wouldn t refund the money for the missed lesson so I could repeat the lesson with my tutor. Then he gave me a link to some terms and conditions SEPARATE from the site terms and conditions. It isn t even the same t&c as the tiny text link on the recordings page leads to. Illegal. (Once a company has a website visitor s consent to site terms, the user can use the site without fear of more terms and conditions that a) don t require a consent and b) aren t covered in the site terms. Yes, I have read the updated site t&c.)
But THEN I discovered that out of 12 2-hours lessons, Wyzant failed to capture 5.5 hours. Tim the team manager at Wyzant wrote a we re forwarding this to the appropriate people and will get back to you note. That was more than a week ago and Wyzant has not responded to me because Wyzant Tutoring doesn t care about its customers and, I have since learned by talking to friends in higher education, Wyzant doesn t treat its tutors well either.
I m lost $1600+ to Wyzant and have to start over with another tutor because Wyzant doesn t honor its commitments or the laws that govern it.
WyzAnt is a horrible company and Tim the team manager at Wyzant is a terrible customer service representative.
Wyzant gets an F in my gradebook. Tim the team manager at Wyzant should be expelled. People, if you or your loved one has a disability, for your own sake, stay away from Wyzant. And if you and your loved ones have no disabilities, please boycott Wyzant as a way of standing with those of us who do.
