Burj Al Arab is set on its own man-made island 280m (918ft) offshore and connected to the mainland by a gently curving causeway. The hotel is nine miles (15km) south of Downtown and 15.5 miles (25km) from Dubai International Airport; Wild Wadi Waterpark is located out front and Madinat Jumeirah, a dining, entertainment and hotel complex, is next door.
Designed in the shape of a billowing sail a nod to the nation s seafaring heritage the landmark building is stunning in its simplicity. The hotel s interiors, meanwhile, scream opulence with a soaring atrium flanked by golden columns, vibrant colours inspired by the elements, lashings of gold leaf and more than 30 different types of marble (among them rare Statuario marble, which was used by Michelangelo in his masterpieces
