12282019, A 3 star from me is not good/not bad: Overall, a pleasantly stress-free and enjoyable experience. I'd certainly come back having accumulated familiarity. Arrived on Christmas day for a few days of escapism. One should know that main entrance hallway is famously decorated and looks best at 1am after the throngs of people who need to have their picture taken for their social media stream clog the area have retired to sleep. It really does look fantastic.
Service staff was friendly, helpful, and attentive to the typical minor service needs. A hotel of this size is an incredibly complicated environment made more difficult by inconsiderate guests who might think that any flat surface is a refuse container set up for them. Picking up after these tiresome people is a constant endeavor but one that the staff stalwartly accomplishes. I didn't sample the spa's services because it's not my relaxation preference. However, I was able to locate the workout facility. Think getting to the stadium stage scene in Spinal Tap. Fun. It has a thoughtful collection of treadmills, stationary bike, weights, and balls of various sizes, weights, & psi. At popular times, there could be a bit more air circulation. There's plenty of water and fruit snacks to keep you focused on maintaining your gains or working off yesterday's gumbo sampler. And, for the narcissist, mirrors. The actual hotel room was technologically modern yet in keeping with the classical design of the building. Two minor bathroom related items: 1. I'm not huge and I'm not small, but the showers are a bit narrow. 2. The bathroom door was not hung plum, and for all you non-carpenter types out there, this means the door would not stay open. It needed to be propped open. Hmmm. Room 10708 incidentally. Having pointed out those two small items, the bathrooms were clean, and the multi-head shower was satisfying. Home bathroom remodeling planning has begun. Oh, at times and to me, the floor hallways had a slight cedar or tack leather scent. If that's your thing, then there you go. The upper floor building halls and rooms were mostly library quiet. Appreciated. I witnessed but did not utilize the pool area. You would be able to soak after sunning and possibly(certainly) get splashed by the feral kids of less attentive parents getting their electric device fix. Forget about training for an Olympic swimming event though. That ain't happening. The in-building cafes and restaurants were capable and thoughtful. Hope this helped plan your visit.
