Great atmosphere, good waiter, good sushi. A little overpriced, but it was good quality and I understand with the whole THING they got going on and the atmosphere they are working very hard to maintain. The only thing that didn't strike our fancy was the following scenario that unfolded... So when our waiter inquired about drinks we all ordered individual mixed drinks but we wanted to expand our sake horizons so we came clean about our sake ignorance and asked him for an honest recommendation... He quickly replied something to the tune of: "Oh, the 'insert_complicated_japanese_name_of_sake' is a wonderful light sake to start your dinner off with and the 'insert_second_name' will be a fabulous after dinner choice" and so of course we said "Ok, sure.. bring it out"... We didn't find out until the bill came that he had recommended a $90 bottle of sake! (Which came up to be about 1/5 of our total bill. We ended up not ordering an after dinner one)
Now, don't get me wrong, I don't blame the waiter at all! We really enjoyed our time at Morimoto, the overall experience was excellent and we DID announce our ignorance of sake and a desire to become more knowledgeable on the matter so I'm sure he was just recommending one of the nicer ones... I just wish he had recommended a couple of options and actually pointed them out on the menu so we could see what we were getting! No biggie though, at least now we can say we've had a nice bottle of sake.. (spoiler alert: to the blind tongue it doesn't really taste THAT much better )
Overall great experience though, thanks for the lighter bro
