J Hall Review of Sawgrass Marriott at Pone Vedr...

Do not waste your money. You would be better off staying at a Holiday Inn Express. This Resort is classified as a 4 star hotel, but the rooms are outdated and the staff will treat you like a burden. Before we arrived, my wife called and asked to ensure we were grouped with the wedding party we were with and they told us to just let them know when we arrived that we were with the wedding and it wouldn t be a problem. My wife checked in and they told us that they couldn t put us with the Wedding group because we booked directly with Marriott, instead of the third party site that was for the wedding party... that s fine, but that s not what she was told on the phone 2 hours earlier.. no big deal we will get over it....When my wife gave them a credit card for the stay, it was not scanning after multiple attempts and then the concierge got frustrated with her because it wasn t the card they had on file. As if that matters... you didn t ask for the card on file, you asked for a card. Don t get mad because you didn t ask for the card used for booking and apparently that s the one you needed... If that wasn t enough, there come the resort fees... the fees cover virtually nothing. You can use the gym, but you can t use the locker room, because that is a spa service . Not only can you not use it, it is guarded by a employee to ensure no one that hasn t paid the spa on the way in can be in the locker room. You get access to high speed WiFi with your resort fee, but it s a public unsecured network that s available to anyone. You can play mini golf but the course is covered in debris and is not maintained at all. You d be better off driving and paying to play at a local mini golf. You can chip balls to a floating green, but it cost $10 per 10 balls . You can sit outside and enjoy the gas fire pit, but the wicker patio chairs don t have cushions and the fire pits are rusted and not maintained at all. You can watch any of the many TVs mounted in the Lobby areas, but only 1 is turned on and it happens to be the one that is washed out and mounted crooked. You can watch tv in your room, but not anything on FOX because that channel is not available . You can watch a handful of other channels, but only in standard definition. You can check out the many pools that are available, but you can t find one that isn t covered in leaves & debris. I understand mistakes happens and that hotels can (and should) charge extra for some services, but if you are going to charge resort fees you should at a minimum clarify what is included in those fees rather than just list everything that your resort has to offer in an attempt to mislead the guest into believing they are included. I expect a four star hotel to at a minimum have a welcoming staff and clean and functional amenities, but Marriott fails to come close to that basic standard. I ve stayed at 2 star hotels with more to offer.
