Bad experience with commercial service department....

Bad experience with commercial service department. I took a van in because it had a little shimmy. They said i needed new shocks to maybe fix the problem. They quoted over $1000 for this repair. I took it to a local mechanic for a second opinion. He found a broken tie rod and had me fixed for under $200 in no time. He said shocks were fine and didn't need replacing. Not sure if it was incompetence or if they were trying to get over on us. My new mechanic said it was very easy to spot the problem.
