Everything about this place is just okay.

Everything about this place is just okay.
I've stayed at 5-star resorts across the US and SE Asia, and this Fairmont is really just okay on a scale of 1-5. We were upgraded to a multi-bed villa, which was very generous of the resort. However spacious the villa was, however, the details were simply quite lacking. For example, I found a huge brown stain on the back of the curtain in the living room. Nothing about the room screams "luxury" - "great," maybe, but not luxury as this resort touts itself.
In terms of dining, I was not impressed. In reality, Ko and Nick's share certain options on their menus, so when I went to dine at Ko for lunch I was not impressed with the selection since I'd already seen the options at Nick's the night prior.
And finally, FINALLY I must say I was disappointed with the pools at the Fairmont. There simply weren't enough lounge chairs available! Hard to believe? The reason for this shortage is that 30-40% of the allotted space around the pools have been reserved for Cabanas. However, NOBODY was renting the cabanas! This meant that everyone was squeezed into the rest of the few remaining spots in the sun. I understand the need to make money, but seriously? I walked around for 10 minutes looking for a shaded chair, and had to settle for one next to the kiddie pool because everything else was taken up by towels and cabanas. Thoroughly disappointed with this aspect of the resort!
I did not try the spa experience here, although I did visit the spa to enquire on the services provided. To be honest, the attitude exhibited by the staff at the spa turned me off. I had asked them to introduce us to some signature treatments, and all they were able to provide us was "here is the brochure - do you want to take it and read it on the side?" Obviously I know how to read promotional material! What I wanted to know was WHY I should spa here instead of at the Grand Wailea or the Four Seasons. From her response, I opted instead for another spa.
Overall, I wouldn't pay whatever you are paying to get a room here. What you get is subpar.
