I visited the ED on Monday for lower back pain. My primary physician was closed for the week and the pain was so bad it was unbearable. My primary physician usually gives me a steroid shot in my SI joint which takes care of things. This time I had pain radiating down my leg. On the plus side I was seen very quickly and the nurses were very considerate. The ED physician ordered a shot for inflammation and prescribed oral steroids and narcotics for the pain. When I asked about getting the steroid shot in my SI joint like my primary physician does he said they didn t do that in the emergency department. Needless to say I was shocked and disappointed in the fact they would rather give narcotics than actually treat the problem. I am still confused about this.
