We arrived at 10:30 and there were still places in the big carpark next to the entrance. We had bought our tickets online, so we did not have to queue for that, but the line waiting for the palace was absurdly long, so we went straight to the gardens and to the Petit Trianon (which was the bit I most wanted to see). We worked our way back to the palace via the gardens and by the time we reached the palace it was half an hour before closing time with zero queue. There was plenty of time to see the main areas of the palace and it was possible to see things better as there was hardly anyone in. If we were to go again we would just get a garden ticket and not bother with the main palace, no need to see the palace twice.
