Coral Springs Kia, (Auto Mall) Are They Crooks?
My lease was coming due on our 2015 Kia Sedona SX. My wife and I love this vehicle and because it only has 34,000 miles we really didn t want give it up. It is perfect. However we became bombarded with phone calls, emails and texts reminding us that our lease was ending soon and we should consider looking at all Kia models for a new lease. We did, but because of the higher interest rates and increase in vehicle costs, leasing the same vehicle was quite a bit more expensive. We decided to keep our midnight blue beauty. I called Kia Finance End of Lease experts and asked what the payoff price is and how to start the paperwork. They advised me that I will have to pay $16,800 plus tax which totaled $18,025.00. We were very happy with this price and I asked to proceed. Unfortunately they advised me that I must go to my dealership and do the paperwork and pay there. That was acceptable. I then received an email advising me of some specials on Kia models at our dealership. I responded by requesting an appointment to come down and payoff my lease. A manager, Don Schreiber, called me the next morning. He said it will be cheaper to turn in our Kia and purchase a used one off the lot. I told him I want to purchase mine. We made an appointment.
We arrived promptly as scheduled. This manager, Don Schrieber couldn t even remember my name. I told him again, we are here to purchase our Kia Sedona SX which we have leased for the last 4 years. He assigned a young sales person, Cheyenne, to take care of this. This person asked for my keys so he can get the vin number and mileage. 20 minutes later after discussing things with the manager, he pushed a paper under my nose. Written on it was the total payoff which showed over $21,000.00. I was in shock. I stood up and said, I don t know if I should call Kia Finance or the Police. What are you trying to do I asked? The manager came over and said that my vehicle was worth more than the payoff. He said, you are buying your used car from me. I can adjust the price. Adjust,? He added over $3,000.00 to the payoff, with additional fees including an $800.00 dealer fee and a bunch of nuisance fees plus the now higher sales tax. My wife and I stood up, politely called them crooks and said you will be reported. I would have made a bigger scene, but we were the only customers in the showroom and probably the only customers for a long time considering their reputation.
The next morning I called Kia Finance and they were in shock. I filed a formal complaint about Coral Springs Kia and expressed how I felt. They advised me that there are only 8 states where you must payoff your lease from Kia at the dealership. Florida is one of them. Luckily they guided me to paying off my lease at the exact numbers they first quoted and we are so happy with our Kia Sedona.
Buyer, beware when doing business with Coral Springs Kia. Their business ethics are borderline thievery at best and outright crooked at worst. Think twice when you hear the name Coral Springs Kia, part of Coral Springs Auto Mall.
