When we visited, Woodbox had been open just 12 days but you would never have known it. Service was efficient and, well, just really nice. This was a delightful Brightonesque experience.

We started with dough strips with three dips which turned out to be four as the chef was experimenting. The experiment was at least as good as the threesome which is really saying something including a beautifully balanced tapenade (not always easy to get right).

Pizzawise we asked about the salami and saucisson, not liking to eat previously unhappy animals. The main man came and plonked himself down next to us and told us all about it. Reassured, we ordered a stonking wild fennel saucisson pizza with bits of rosemary that complemented the meat perfectly. It was all washed down with a splendid Sicilian house white (it was a sunny day).

Despite the efficiency the vibe was totally laid back and overall it was embarrassing to be asked for a measly 43 quid at the end (exc service).

We'll be back, often.

PS The pictures on the walls were fab too.
