Review of Gunflint Lodge

My dog and I stayed for a long weekend at Gunflint...

My dog and I stayed for a long weekend at Gunflint Lodge for a needed getaway from the Twin Cities. It was absolutely the perfect retreat for us. The drive through the Gunflint Trail to the property is so beautiful and the lodge property itself is fantastic. It is filled with hiking/skiing/snowmobile trails to explore. The main lodge is warm and cozy with the perfect lake view. The cabins are also wonderful. I stayed in Cabin 26 and enjoyed the jacuzzi tub as I watched the snowglobe-like weather outside. It was also nice to have a full kitchen, although I quickly realized how great the food was at the Lodge that I only used it to make coffee and tea. I also appreciated NOT having wifi in the cabin, but only in the main lodge. I think it really added to the enjoyment of my time here.
The staff are all super friendly- from making you the perfect peppermint vodka hot chocolate, recommending their out of this world walleye chowder, giving you tips on where to mayyybe see a moose, to providing guidance on which winter hiking trails are good options for a dachshund! I also indulged in a 1.5 hour massage which was fantastic - thanks Karli! Everyone was welcoming and helpful and you feel like you are visiting a family friend's cabin.
I am not a winter-lover, but being at Gunflint has never made me so happy in snow and 22 degree weather.
Thank you for your hospitality and being the respite Maddie and I needed! We will surely be back!
