One of the earliest Central govt engineering colleges (then called Regional Engineering College), Trichy started in 1964 ( first batch came out in 1969) earned a place for itself as the much sought after institution in India. The first Principal Prof Manisundaram was a visionary and developed the vast area available as an institution of excellence. The hostels were named after precious stones like Agate, Coral etc.. It leveraged the Industry around like BHEL to start industry oriented PG programs with even UNESCO aid !. I had the privilege of being student in the first batch of PG program. It had excellent Library covering wide range of books and magazines in all branches of engineering, good hostels and well equipped labs and workshops. naturally it attracted brilliant teaching staff as well. I am sure it continues with its glorious start.
