Had a great experience.
Got tickets right at Battery Park for $20, waited in line and got in the ferry, the ferry is very good and there is even food for purchase. The ride is just about 10min long.
Then you get to the island and can see the statue up close. In the island there's restaurants and gift shops and a museum.
