I've searched the Northern Virginia area for a stylist for black hair, and I'm thrilled to say I've finally found one in Michael! As an African American woman, it can be hard to trust a new person with my hair, particularly if the stylists don't look like me. Michael made me feel at ease, talked through the different pictures I brought, and discussed past successes and failures (from other salons) concerning my hair. By the time she started, I was completely at ease.

Michael flat-ironed my natural hair, cut off inches of dead hair, and styled it into a fashionable do. She's my go-to stylist. And, I understand the rest of her staff has been trained by her and can do black hair just as well.

The salon itself is very nice, featuring a gallery of purchasable accessories by local artists, and small private rooms for those who may not want to be out in the open (i.e. Muslim women, or women going through chemo). Also noteworthy: I was seen at my actual appointment time!

I can't say enough great things about the Michael Helene Salon Gallery. No more treks to Maryland for my African American hair for me!
