I went in to the emergency room, and when I was seen by someone they didn t seem to know what they were doing, had me wash my own injury out in a sink (that was busted) with saline solution then after disappearing for 10 minutes, put a bandaid on it and said to come back if it got worse.

Well next day I have a huge infection so I return where I am promptly admitted and told I need surgery. I was told that I should have been admitted the first time (okay? You guys are the ones who didn t admit me) sure fine. I m told tomorrow, I get the surgery, great. I m told I ll be discharged

But then another doctor tells me I needed to be held until some cultures came back which would be ready the next day, but I have to stay 2 extra days because the doctor won t be here to look at them. So now I m irritated I have to be here longer just because someone has the day off.

Finally I get the all clear to leave after five days, I spoke with the doctor they said A-okay. I m waiting on my discharge, for probably over an hour so I finally ask and then I m told I m not being discharged until TOMORROW. When I tell this new doctor that the infections specialist doc (who s in charge of my care) Just told me I can leave he gets an attitude with me, so I tell them no I m leaving. Because apparently the doctor I spoke with HAD LEFT FOR THE DAY. Which then he tells me is a refusal of care. It s not a refusal of care if I was told I could go by the person in charge of my discharge, it is total incompetence on your part to not have the person in charge actually update my chart.

Then months later I get a bill telling me my insurance refused to pay due to a refusal of Care which isn t true because I called my insurance company and Borgess hadn t even submitted a claim to them. Then when I try to straighten this out 3 times, they try to charge 3 different insurances (despite being given the correct insurance info 3 separate times) finally my insurance company got so irritated by their stupidity they dealt with them directly and got it handled for us.

Overall the general theme of this hospital seemed to be a total lack of communication, understaffing, and just general cluelessness. The nurses I had were all amazing, two of three doctors I spoke with were very nice but the third had a total attitude when I was just a frustrated mom trying to get home to her family when I d been constantly told you should be going home today for 5 days straight.

To be honest I felt like I was there because they wanted money not for my well being. I felt like my treatment was mishandled and lazy.
