Commencing in 1875, the 93 metre statue was built in Paris and then shipped over to the U.S. in 1885 to be reassembled. The Statue of Liberty National Monument was officially dedicated and unveiled on 28-Oct-1886.

We were in the USA for the FIFA World Cup94 and had flown into New York's JFK as a jumping-off point for our trip. Couldn't resist the opportunity to make the Statue of Liberty ferry-trip and really enjoyed it all. On the day we were there, the option to climb up the 354 steps to Liberty's crown was happily not available.
