BONNIE J KALMBACH Review of Dane County Humane Society

Prices reflect what the humane society has to spend on these animals. Many come from high kill shelters which require dogs to be spayed or neutered and have all vaccinations before they can leave. Often dogs from these shelters have other health issues, such as heartworm, which require veterinary treatment (heartworm costs about $500 to treat as we learned when we adopted a rescue dog from the south). If a dog comes from a kill shelter in another state, often boarding in quarantine for around two weeks is required before the animal can be taken across sate lines, which is another cost factor.
