Okay, full disclosure, I do work here (albeit as a photographer, and not for the zoo itself). However, I've loved this zoo since my childhood, and that's the biggest reason I took my job. The Woodland Park Zoo is a fantastic way to spend your day, and I'd recommend arriving as early as possible in the day, because there's just so much to see. As a general rule, animals tend to be active in the early mornings and late afternoon, and take naps around mid-day.

If you bring spare cash, you can feed a variety of animals, including the penguins, or meet the rhinos. If you're in the forest amphitheater you can meet an ambassador animal up close, like a porcupine or even an arctic fox, and learn about them. If you want to catch a glimpse of the rather shy ocelot, head to the Tropical Rainforest building between 12pm-2pm, when the keepers help coax him out of hiding.

Maps are available for free, with strollers, manual wheelchairs, and power chairs available for rent at guest services. There are emergency medical services there as well, if needed.
