Dan Thorp Review of Terry Knickerbocker Studio
A big fan of Terry here for many reasons..
A big fan of Terry here for many reasons..
1. And this is my favorite reason.. his adjustments. The way he communicates his adjustments is fantastic. Anybody can pick them up. He reminds me of Moss. His use of simile is priceless and the amount of love he wraps those adjustments should not be overlooked. Its everything to a vulnerable actor
2. His Love.. Theres no ego with Terry. He's learning just like we are. Its very much a team effort and when things get sticky Terry never loses his cool. So steady
3. His Preparation.. He puts work in no doubt. He knows the material well. Not just the scene but the whole play, the playwright, the scene, the time period, etc.
4. His ability to have the difficult conversation... This is probably the most important. All good actors love this in their teachers. We need the truth always and most teachers don't have the skills to give it to the actor in a way that doesn't crush them. Terry does. If he smells something personal he is not afraid to talk about it, to dig into it and to find a solution moving forward. I find this to be the rarest of qualities in an acting teacher. Not exactly sure why but Terry probably does!
5. My classmates..Because Terry is taking actors to new heights each and every class, I find myself learning more and more than I ever thought I could from my classmates. Watching my mates rise up creates an inspiration. When a scene goes up and they kill it, suddenly everyone is looking around like "DAMN, let''s do this! I want to do that!" It's one of those by-products that can only be created by ensuring the list above. It's why I give Terry 5 stars and why I will now continue to work with him. And if you are worried about doing it on Zoom, don't. It's actually a gift. There are so many aspects to acting and auditioning in 2020 that directly relate to Zoom and the online platforms and this class will help shape and mold those variables for you. Not to mention the rare opportunity to combine theater and film..
Just dive in, head first..Terry will be there for you for sure..
See you in class... DT
