I have hesitated writing this review because I'm not one to intentionally disparage any business. However, because it was my wedding, I feel it's necessary to get the word out.
It started when we tried to book the venue. We were able to get in touch with the coordinator Leslie initially, but after that it was nearly impossible. Voicemails were left un-returned, and even an attempt to contact her supervisor went without a response. Nearly 1 month went by without hearing anything back. It took us having to go to the Mansion in person to have some contact. Our wedding was a small, intimate group of those we love the most, leaving the cost of the affair to be the minimal charge. We were made to feel as though the staff were intentionally ignoring our calls/emails because they were holding out for a higher paying event. When they realized this wasn't so, they started being more communicative.
The day of the ceremony went well, until it came time for the reception in the Carriage Wine Cellar. After we were married and pictures were taken, we made our way up to where we were going to have dinner and the room was 90 degrees. They told us when we commented that the staff was waiting to turn on the air until we go into the room, instead of having it precooled for the wedding guests who were in dress shirts, jackets and not to mention wedding dresses. We then had about 20 minutes to talk to our guests and eat the appetizers we'd ordered for the party before I was pulled aside and was told that dinner was ready so we should be seated. We didn't feel like we had time to soak it in and enjoy the day.
Once dinner was served, the food was room temperature and the chicken was very dry. I will say that Leslie, the coordinator, worked with the kitchen to create a menu that fit our budget. But the entire thing felt thrown together last minute because we weren't spending more money. (I should mention that the ceremony, room, beer, food and tax was all about $7,000 so it wasn't a cheap affair. Also, we had friends and family staying at the hotel which upped the tab amount.)
Decorations that we bought and set up were kept by the mansion, along with our cake platter.
Our day, that should have been the most amazing day we've ever had, was diminished by feeling less than. I wouldn't recommend this venue for anyone planning a small, intimate event.
We are locals in Savannah, passing by the Mansion almost daily. It's a shame that we feel no emotional attachment to the place we chose to join together as wife and wife.
