Although the tickets are quite expensive, Sydney's Taronga Zoo is just beautiful. Located at the North side of the Harbour, you get stunning views while you're visiting the animals. The compounds like the one for the elephants are big and well designed. It's fun to see how they engage the animals in games and little tasks to keep them busy. Watch out for your sandwiches as I have already seen Kookaburras stealing those from the air! The seal and the bird shows are great entertainment and are also good for education. I like that the animals are treated well and are not shown for the pure sake of entertaining people. Taronga Zoo has a lot to offer, especially in Summer time. School groups can visit the education centre and learn more about different animals as well as even touch some of them. A really nice thing to do is sleeping in the zoo. It's is a quite expensive thing to do but absolutely worth it. You get nibbles, wine, dinner, a night and a early morning tour when no other visitors are around and you'll get some insider information and fun facts about various animals (e.g. why there's one giraffe with its tongue out all the time).
