Robin Mordini Review of The Columbia Chronicle

I went to school here and I also go back sometimes for various events such as art installations, galleries, alumni events, or manifest which is the big celebration every school years end. However, the campus has become so big and stretched out across the loop that it misses out on the community aspect and natural networking opportunities. The bookstore also does not have a lot of choices to buy cool merch or gifts. If you choose to go to school here, it's not about what classes you take but more about networking for an industry job. They have a high drop out rate because of open enrollment or at least that was the old policy. It's also confusing to know which department to go to if you have an issue. You get the run around a lot. My opinion is that counsellors also bias on recommending classes so they can fill them evenly or they have a friend running the class so it won't get canceled so don't be afraid to go against their recommendation. I would also suggest taking fallback and transferable skills classes because many students don't end up working in their field; for example, take a basic photoshop class because many jobs require this or take an entrepreneurship class because it can be applied to most jobs. There are many scholarship opportunities to attend here and it's cheaper than other art/communication schools in the area.
