City University of Hong Kong (City University for short; English: City University of Hong Kong) is a public applied university located in Kowloon Tong, Sham Shui Po District, Kowloon, Hong Kong. Formerly known as the "City Polytechnic of Hong Kong" founded in 1984, the school was established in the Trade and Industry Department building in Mong Kok when it opened. It moved to the permanent school building in Kowloon Tong in 1990 and was upgraded to the City University of Hong Kong in 1994.

The City University of Hong Kong is one of eight universities funded by the University Grants Committee (UGC), focusing on diversity, cross-cultural learning and a global perspective. The academic level of the City University of Hong Kong has been continuously improved in recent years, and it has been awarded internationally as one of the four best universities in Hong Kong for many years. CityU is composed of 7 schools, 25 departments, and 37 research centers, including the School of Business, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Science and Engineering, the School of Animal Medicine and Life Sciences, the School of Creative Media, the School of Energy and Environment, and the School of Law.[5] Provide more than 100 bachelor's degree and postgraduate courses. The Zhou Yiqing Graduate School is responsible for the operation and development of all graduate courses, as well as improving the learning environment for graduate students. [6][7]

CityU ranks in the forefront of the QS comprehensive ranking [8][9]. According to the QS 2019 University Rankings, CityU is ranked 55th in the world, and ranked 5th in the Best Universities in the World for Less than 50 Years ; and according to the QS 2018 Rankings Ranked 8th in Asia and 3rd in Hong Kong.

In the Times Higher Education World University Rankings published in 2018, the City University of Hong Kong ranked 7th in the world among young universities with a school age of less than 50 years [10].
