Whoa, talk about unexpected surprise. As I was traveling to my homeland I needed a sweet treat for my metro north trip. Miraculously this place was near the restrooms downstairs in the dining concourse with a mini line. I was struck by the display case. I saw jumbo individual pies, jumbo muffins, cupcakes and whole cakes in glass cake stands that look like what I'd see at grandma's.
I settled on the cupcake, just one (trying to keep a waist line during bathing suit season ya know). I got the chocolate frosted vanilla cake. On first glance, the ratio of frosting to cake was perfect, you know 30% frosting 70% cake. The cake was very good, light, fluffy a clearly made with butter not margarine. I was a little shocked when I peeled back the liner, seemed like there should've been more cake. Since I was already on my way to Connecticut, that didn't stop me. I dug in. The frosting was good, chocolaty and real cream, not just brown flavored powdered sugar.
For $3.25 in NYC I've got no complaints. The cupcake was cheaper than the latte I got at another stand and more satisfying. I'll get another on the way back.
