Great for hiking and enjoying the wide open beauty of the prairies. Parks staff are very helpful and knowledgeable.
Absolutely incredible park. From the bison and prairie dogs to the star gazing to the incredible hikes. Stayed 2 nights.
An unbelievable experience in a very much underrated National Park. While my experience was visiting the West Block, the impact of the visit has me wanting to plan a longer visit in the very near future. Stunning views, natural fauna, a Prairie Dog commune that looked to be in the thousands and, the Buffalo. Make this location a must see!
The staff at Grasslands National Park were very welcoming, knew their stuff, and were quite happy to cope with the large number of folk from our group. Nicole and her colleague who led us on the tour to, up, over and around 70 Mile Butte were great, especially as we had everyone from young children to elders and every shape and size in between. They kept us going but also made sure none was over exerted. It was a really enjoyable trip.
Definitely worth the detour.... Staff are more than patient with over excited visitors, and quite knowledgeable about history and wildlife.
Campground is perfect, even for larger rigs (I have a 40 footer). Just that the trail that leads has plenty of ruts, so drive slow. Campground has only power, (there are restrooms and water supply, not for rv, just to fill your jugs, so fill your rv at visitors center in Val Marie.
There is also a cardlock for fuel in town that takes visa and master card. Not sure about us cards though... Grocery store has everything you need.
So spend the night there and enjoy what the Prairie has to offer... Oh yes PLENTY OF BISONS... no need to leave the main trail..
Ps, they have brand new super tents for rent as well as mountain bikes...
Great little visitor center with very helpful staff. They even checked us in for camping. Lots of helpful brochures. Be sure to take a look around before proceeding to the park.
Grasslands National Park is a unique Saskatchewan experience. Why? There are two separate areas to this park with very different experiences in both.
East Block is more rugged with badlands.
West Block is more rolling plain and grassland.
Lots of knowledgeable staff and information about the Grasslands Park. Visiting is a must if you re in the area!!
Great little park with fun hikes and driving tours.
The staff was friendly and gave great activity recommendations tailored to visitors interests.
From US visited first Canadian National park and found it delightful - they are well staffed with lots of knowledge and programs about their natural wonders.
Great autumn weather; great wildlife; Grasslands National Park certainly lived up to our expectations and more.
Unfortunately the place was closed but they did a great job of planning all the information you needed in a kiosk outside.
Here's a group of people who obviously love their job and share their passion for Grasslands National Park with any visitors willing to listen. They can provide information for the best places to encounter certain species of wildlife while in the park, tell you where the best places to watch the sunset are and they can even help you figure out where to pitch your tent or park your RV. Even if you know everything you need to prior to visiting the park, just stop in to say hello - they're such a nice bunch of people :)
What a wonderful park! The scenery is extraordinary... a beautiful palette of soft colours, a huge variety of grasses blowing in the wind. Quiet like you only get out in the prairies and it seemed we had our own safari today. Hawks, deer, bison, antelope, heron, prairie dogs and a flash mob of cows!! If was a fantastic day and I highly recommend taking the time to visit!!!
An excellent buffet and a community hub this is part of the Val Marie experience and a good way to experience everyday prairie culture
Nature at its best . No tourist shops selling tourist junk from China. Quaint shops in Val Marie run by locals truly Saskatchewan flavour. If you like a simple stress free and relatively people free vacation ie lots of elbow room tgis is the place.
