Surprisingly all the negative reviews are about the pricing rather than the health of the animals. Let me start off with my favorite species that this park happens to have- axolotls.
I am a long time owner and breeder of axolotls. I obviously know about the care of these endangered guys as well as how to keep them not only happy, but healthy.
When I visited this park I was disgusted with their habitat. They had AT LEAST 7 axolotls in a tank that couldn't be more than 55 gallons. Axolotls need 20 gallons for one, and then an additional 10 gallons per axolotl- which means 7 axolotls would need 90 gallons at least.
My second point is that there are also FISH in with the axolotls- the only fish you can keep with axolotls are guppies. The axolotls will get picked on by the fish, and the axolotls will be eaten alive by the fish until the axolotls eat them. Axolotls cannot digest bones, and they will be stuck in their stomach. Fish other than guppies also have too much thiamine and fat, as well as amino acids to be healthy for axolotls to eat.
The axolotls are also on gravel, which is small rocks. When axolotls eat, they basically just inhale really deeply. When they do this, they inhale water as well as whatever substrate they are on. Axolotls can't digest rocks- so they will inhale the gravel and it will be stuck in their stomach forever, creating impaction which will cause them to stop eating and essentially die. Sand and slate are the only two safe substrates for axolotls.
I contacted the head of the aquarium, Mickey, multiple times about the care of this to try to get them fixed. I have a genuine love for this species, they are all so personable and loving. Mickey told me he didn't care and he knows what he's doing, and unless I want to buy books regarding axolotl care and personally bring them in and show him where it says these "insane accusations", he wasn't changing anything. He told me his last group of axolotls had lived between 5-7 years old. Their lifespan is 15-20 years old. He proceeded to hang up on me when I told him his. I called 3 times after that with no response.
This "zoo" clearly has no care for the animals they have. Most of the aquatics are in improper enclosures, which shows by the stressed fish. Many have stress stripes or just look unhealthy.
The birds also show signs of stress and anxiety- they've torn all of their feathers out.
All of the animals in the petting zoo are severely obese- I'm truly surprised if any of them have lived half of an expected lifespan.
All in all, this zoo is just trying to profit off of the sad and unfulfilling lives of sickly and distressed animals. I would NOT recommend spending your money here. All you're doing is feeding into the problem.
