Read Sand County Almanac before you come. Or don't. Excellent staff and tour guides work here to help educate us to Leopold's land stewardship theories and techniques. Beautiful, especially, for me, in the autumn-only time I have visited, though.
Just a place. A Shack, on a river.
But the Ideas, the Writing, the Experiences had here are much more tactile, to my mind, than, for instance, trying to distill the Mississippi out of Clemen's birthplace in Hannibal, with every hotel named the same.
Aldo Leopold was a pioneer of conservationism. Come here if you care.
