We were in Dallas, Texas because of being assigned to a new project for the company. The project was started in 5 days and the company flew us in late that night and my co-worker went online that night to secure an inexpensive rental car to pick up the next morning for use to utilize to locate a place to reside in Dallas because we would be relocating here for the next 12 to 18 months. We completed the necessary information online and it charged my coworker for the days of rental that we needed and gave her a reservation number and a time to pick. We Uber'd to the DFW Airport after check the Dollar website AND confirmation page to ensure we had all the necessary paperwork. When we arrived to the counter the agent informed us they would have to charge our credit card for $350 (place a hold on the credit card. We did not want the hold on our credit card since we needed every dollar to relocate to Dallas and secure housing immediately. When we ask the people to cancel the reservation the agent informed us they do not do reservations and we would need to contact the third party online booking agency to ask them for a refund. Once we finally located a number and spoke with the third party booking they informed us that the two-hour window had expired and they could not give us our money back. We spent another 32 minutes on hold waiting to speak with a manager or supervisor and then 16 additional minutes explaining the situation to this person. After threatening to report them to the BBB the manager stated that he would do this gracious thing for us but they normally don't offer refunds even though there confirmation email tells you everything you will need to pick up the rental car, however, it FAILS to mention that they require a $350 hold be placed on your credit card. Long story short...Dollar rental car Agents were horrible, unapologetic and basically nonchalant about the entire situation. I RECOMMEND YOU STAY AWAY FROM THIS RENTAL CAR COMPANY. The lure you in with the specials that are not specials. We ended up going down to the AVIS rental car counter and a Super nice Customer Service Agent named A'dam was able to get us the rental car we needed at an even better rate than Dollar and they did not place a $350 dollar hold on our credit card. As a matter of fact she apologized for what Dollar Rental Car took us through. The Avis Agent was an angel in disguise!
