One of the historic hotels in Cairo, it is a large five-star hotel located in the Zamalek area on the island of the Nile, and this hotel was originally known as the Gezira Palace
Built by Khedive Ismail in 1869 to be the official residence for the guests of the celebrations of the opening of the Suez Canal, especially the guest of honor, Empress Eugenie, wife of Emperor Napoleon III, and the most luxurious decorations and accessories that can be obtained from Paris and Berlin were brought at that time. That cost three quarters of a million pounds.
In 1879 the palace was sold to the Egyptian Hotel Company to pay part of the debts of Khedive Ismail and it was converted into the Gezira Palace Hotel, and after the collapse of the tourist movement in Egypt during the First World War, the owner company decided to sell the palace in 1919 to one of the Lebanese princes who converted it into a private residence.
In 1962, the palace was nationalized and transformed again into a hotel in the name of the Omar Khayyam Hotel, then in the early 1970s the Marriott International Company took over the management of the Marriott Hotel, so the palace and gardens were restored with the construction of two towers on either side to include 1250 luxurious rooms and suites while retaining the original palace as a reception, restaurants, meeting rooms and lounges Celebrations, and the hotel opened in 1982
The hotel consists of three buildings, the first building is the palace building, which consists of 5 floors with hotel halls, restaurants, shopping stores, the main hall and reception, the second building is the Zamalek Tower building, and the third is the Island Tower, and between these buildings there is the swimming pool, restaurants and the club,
As for the gardens, they are located on an area of six acres, and the hotel's towers rise 20 floors.
