It had been a little while since I last went to the old location but taking my niece and nephew to the new spot on Pier 15 this summer was an absolute blast. We bought tickets online ahead of time for entrance right when they opened. We went midweek so I'm sure that helped but we had a really good amount of time before it got crowded at all. You know you have a good museum when five adults will accompany two children (my husband, who rarely takes a day off, came with us and his tech company coworkers were so jealous when they learned why). There really is something for everyone. I think the kids would have been satisfied with just the first couple exhibits. Eventually we had to move them along, "Come on! So much more to see and do." The old classics we all saw on field trips growing up (I lived about two hours away and we still went) are there as well as some new things. The space is just so much more open and feels so fresh and new. I usually dread a museum cafe meal but this one is really great. You can even eat there without a ticket to the Exploratorium. There's sushi and simple stuff for the kids... even cocktails! Parking is expensive, if you have a small group you might consider taking BART. I almost upgraded my ticket to a membership so I could come in and enjoy the views whenever I want. For now I just plan to go back for one of their After Dark events.
