A MUST visit when in New york. Take the ferry to liberty island. There's an audio tour included with the tickets which tells the history of the place as you walk around the island. Loved the whole tour and the way it was organized. The statue of liberty is itself magnificent to look at along with the breathtaking views of Manhattan. The ferry stops at Ellis island as well. We skipped it but if you have time at hand, you could get down there as well.
