The ultimate retreat for both local and international travellers, and hands down our personal favourite Cape Town hotel.

Breakfast is spectacular and caters to every taste and dietary need, the guest rooms are beautifully appointed with gorgeous views, and the full-sized amenities are wonderful. There is no better hotel swimming pool in the country: located on the hotel island, it's luxurious, enormous, beautifully maintained and always the perfect temperature, with pool toys for old and young to enjoy. Friendly and professional poolside service adds to the charm, making the pool irresistible on balmy summer days.

Hotel management at the One&Only treat guests as though they're family (often greeting a return guest with a heartfelt "Welcome home!", and facilitate special touches to enhance every stay. Children are treated like VIPs, and by their second visit will be greeted by name upon arrival, by porters, waitresses and managers alike.

The kids' club facility renders the wonderful V&A Waterfront almost redundant, as attendants organise daily educational tours to the aquarium and nearby kid-friendly attractions. Puzzles, toys, a kiddies' library, a fabulous playground and the daily 5pm movie & popcorn sessions will delight the under-12s.

Add Reuben's, Nomu, an excellent spa and a top-notch gym to the mix and you get a hotel that's very hard indeed to say goodbye to.
