My mother-in-law had been a resident at Cardinal Village in assisted living for 2.5 years. She had physical limitations and over time developed dementia. She was PROMISED that she could receive care until end of life, no need to ever move. Yet, when she required higher levels of care, the staff was rude to her / wouldn't help and left her sitting for hours by herself in various areas of the facility, along with other residents. Truthfully. (Note that I said facility - your loved one will not feel at home here.)

When my husband and brother-in-law tried REPEATEDLY to talk to the head of nursing about their concerns and what was best for their mom, she refused, was rude, and only after scheduling a meeting with the Executive Director, did she come to the table. Promises were made, none were kept. My husband and his brother engaged with a law firm to explore options for suing the facility. In the end, they feared greater retaliation for their mom and did not pursue. Well after the fact - three months after Cardinal Village decided to change her care plan - documentation that "explained" this change was mailed to my brother-in-law. Don't forget that they had been trying to engage in a productive discussion about her care with the executive staff for five months.

There were many wonderful people on staff who tried to help when they could, despite the restrictions the head of nursing put on my mother-in-law s care. The problem was that they were not the decision makers

I have many, many more details to share, but know that this is an institutional facility, you can t be sure how your family member is being treated (believe them if they say they are treated badly), and you ll be sad for him or her every time you visit.
