We recently stayed at Hilton Hawaiian Village for a week on our way home from the US mainland. Overall I was unimpressed with the resort as a whole. We were in the tapa tower on the 34th floor. Whilst I was aware from various sources that the resort was under renovation, what the website and various sources do not disclose is that it is heavy construction noise. We had a balcony but were unable to use it during daylight hours due to the heavy construction noise that continued all day long. We tried to have a drink at the Tapa bar twice but the constant banging and noise from the construction means that conversation is virtually impossible. In addition to this we also heard the alarm from the lift ringing three times over the course of the week signalling that someone was stuck, indicating some type of problem there. There is minimal bus parking due to the construction meaning getting a tour bus in and out of the resort is a nightmare, and taxi fares are higher than normal due to the time taken to just get in or out of the resort. The resort itself appears to give preference to tourists of Asian descent, several shops within the resort only display pricing in Japanese and several times we saw these tourists given preferential seating in restaurants. We also found many of these tourists to be rude, barging into elevators without waiting for those in them to exit or pushing into queues etc. Overall the resort seems unable to cope with the volume of rooms it has, so how it is going to cope with an additional two towers remains a mystery. On the plus side the beachfront location allows for instant access to the beach, though if you want to hire beach or water equipment do yourself a favour and walk down the beach a little bit, you'll save a fortune. Overall considering the price of a room for a week I expected a lot more. I expected to be able to enjoy the view I paid for noise free and I expected to be able to enjoy the resort facilities without being bombarded with noise. Next time I will stay a little further down the beach, well and truly away from this resort.
