SFSU, with an incredibly small footprint, is a haven for education in "The City." It doesn't match the progressive nature of San Francisco, it leads it. Ever since the student strike of 1968, when the field of Ethnic Studies was created, this campus has led the charge in Social Justice. Now every student takes upper division GE in Environmental Sustainability, Global Perspectives, Social Justice and Racial and Ethnic Minorities. It quietly works to inspire student success, while empowering them to change the world. Berkley may get more press because of protest violence that often erupts, but SFSU makes Berkley look like a children's playground and on a sliver of the budget.
