I was a recipient from this foundation in 2003 when it was known as Crossing the Finish Line. I was only 22 when I was diagnosed with 2 kinds of cancer, and after many months of surgeries and radiation treatments, my oncology team sent in my information for consideration without my knowledge. I was shocked and humbled when I was selected, feeling so beaten down and exhausted after everything I had been through (plus my treatments lasted for several years afterward every few months). I was 23 when selected, a year too young to qualify, but I guess my sad story moved the decision makers to make an exception. It really only got complicated when I had to rent a car, lol! After so much darkness in my early adult years, the experience that this foundation allowed me to have was one of the highlights of my life. I m turning 40 this month and set up a fundraiser for For Pete s Sake on Facebook (after figuring out the name had changed). It s a small token of appreciation for a foundation that gave me so much at a time I really needed some hope and light in my life. You all deserve to be more known in the cancer-charity community. Thank you!
