Birthday party for my 8 year old daughter turned out horrible. My wife s car was broken into while parked in front of the water park. The water park has no security at all. The right side glass was broke and body damage from a pry bar bent the door frame. Glass was everywhere and anything they could grab was gone. When reported to the front desk it seemed that this was normal course for a day s business. The manager did admit that this has happened before, but yet no security measures at all are taken by this hotel. How much would a camera system, security fence, retired of off duty security guard, or any deterrent cost. The manager on duty said that the hotel worked with their guest very well and gave me the name and number to contact during normal business hours. After several attempts I was able to reach the person I was instructed to speak with. They wasted no time telling me that they had no responsibility for anything that occurred in the parking lot. I began researching the area and even after suffering loss and damage I actually began to feel relief. You see I got out with only some personal property damage. I learned that there had been robbery that resulted in shootings in this area. It was a mistake of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. This incident happened in broad daylight. At approximately 5:30 the time seemed right for our criminals to attack. Well as I mentioned before with no security measures there isn t any reason for them to wait until dark. They certainly wouldn t want to miss something valuable. However we did have to wait for a couple hours for the police to come. They said that they had several calls and was behind. As we waited it began to get dark and that brought a whole new level of odd activity. I was able to send my kids home with grandma so I could begin to rest easy. It looked like the oldest profession in the world was doing good business. Here I thought we was in a recession, but expendable cash for some looked pretty easy. At this point I was happy about our gun laws. I felt more secure knowing that I was able to protect the family that remained with me while we waited for the officers. I decided to go to Subway across from the Stadium to get some nourishment, I later found out Subway was also robbed two nights earlier. What are the odds? Well for this area I would guess being in the wrong place at the wrong time is about 1 in 10. I can further support this as I was driving back to the scene at Coco Keys I was followed by the Kansas City police department that thought I might have stolen the truck I was driving as they just had a report on close to the same make, model and year. My thought at this point is Coco Keys may need to add any measure of security and the issue of a bullet proof vest for guest. I use to think that the Holiday Inn cares for and supports there guest safety. In my experience it could not be further from the truth. I also thought I was visiting part of a John Q. Hammons hotel who has a vision statement of creating a hotel experience that exceeds every expectation. It is not a Hammons hotel, but rather a Sage something based out of Denver, Colorado. It would be my guess that Sage has a reaction statement rather than a vision statement. Maybe it would read something like we are not responsible for anything that s why you have car insurance. Well for everyone that this helps I thank you for your reaction statement. I feel like I made a bad decision, but that doesn t mean anyone else needs to learn as I did. And for that Sage whatever Holiday Inn Coco Keys I thank you!
