The construction of the palace took 5 years, and its construction was completed in the year 1868 AD.
The Khedive also ordered that it be carefully decorated in the style of the decoration of Eugenie's residence in the Toyuri Palace, with an Islamic character in the architectural style through the use of designs made of marble, in addition
Windows and balconies made in the Mashrabiya style.
Then French landscape architect Barrier Deschamps transformed the entire island into a sprawling park.
As for the interior decorations and ornaments of the palace, Khedive Ismail ordered to import them from Paris, and designed by the famous German engineer (Karl Wilhelm von Dibbich) in his workshop in Berlin, which are decorations through which he was keen to take into account the harmony and harmony between all interior elements, including furniture, curtains, carpets and even The inscriptions on the walls.
The cost reached 750 thousand pounds, and according to what Ali Mubarak, who was then the Minister of Public Works in Egypt during the reign of Khedive Ismail, said that the construction costs of the palace amounted to more than 750 thousand Egyptian pounds, and that amount was very huge by the standards of that time.
Upon the completion of the construction of the palace, Franz Bey said: The Gezira Palace is truly the most beautiful building of its kind in a modern Arab style, when he entrusted the world musician Verdi to compose music, on the occasion of the celebration of the opening of the Suez Canal, and Verdi composed the music of "Aida Opera" specially for this occasion. And the music was played for the first time in the garden of the island palace.
The palace, which witnessed and witnesses amazing social celebrations, includes expensive paintings and statues, completed by European sculptors and painters, and the palace was inspired by its drawings from the oriental style and Islamic art, and the interior designs harmonize between fabrics, furniture and artifacts from French, German and Italian schools.
