The Liberty was a jail for roughly 100 years until 1990. A few years later it was transformed into a luxury hotel, leaving much of the original building intact. The provenance alone is worth a stay while in Boston. The bars and old bricks give it something that other hotels cannot offer.

That being said, the differences between the Liberty and other luxury hotels are like night and day. They seemed to be understaffed throughout our stay and we just didn't get that same personal touch that hotels like the Ritz Carlton and others are known for. I would likely try out another hotel the next time I'm in Boston.
