Our family of 3, along with approx 20 other family...

Our family of 3, along with approx 20 other family members, have met at the Pheasant Run Resort, in St. Charles, for our annual Family 4th of July celebration, for the last several years. This year was our last!! If I could leave a negative number of stars, I would. Each year we've had small issues here and there, but nothing to keep us from returning. However, in the last 3 years we've seen a rapid decline in their customer service/hospitality, as well as a disturbing decline in the maintenance and housekeeping departments. We had several issues during our stay last year, (which included finding a 14", blood/body fluid stain on the mattress of the pull-out sofa that my son was to sleep on UGH!) that was met with a lukewarm response from the front desk. - My husband somehow convinced me to give them another try and he won't be living that down any time soon!

From the 20 minute wait to check-in to an onslaught of new rules (regarding the pool area) and a 9a.m., unannounced fire "drill" our stay was something out of a National Lampoon's film! The room itself was absolutely filthy (see photos). The hallways were full of stained carpet, ripped wallpaper and an indescribable body odor-like stench. We were awoken by drunken arguments, the "passionate" neighbors above us and, as previously stated, a fire alarm going off at 9am - we hadn't been notified at check-in, however a staff member stood in the hallway and announced that it was "just a drill, not a fire". I would've called the front desk, however the room's phone didn't work, (it was filthy and missing several of its buttons, as well). At one point, our (old, tube-style) tv wasn't working properly due to a storm...

In the photos, you'll see a torn lampshade (hard to miss), dust and debris around the beds, something resembling an acrylic fingernail and insect carcasses by the bedside table, mold on the A/C unit, "dirt" on the outlet, an outlet coming out of the wall, a broken hair dryer that looks to be a fire hazard, and a filth-encrusted shower head... I'd packed slippers, Clorox wipes, dish soap and Lysol spray after what I'd seen last year and I'm SO glad I did!! Needless to say, we checked out early, cutting our reservation short. - My husband relayed, to the front desk person, the above mentioned things, to which they responded, "I'm really sorry you were unhappy with your stay. Would you like to speak to the manager?"... He shook his head and walked out. After last year's issues and the blatant disregard for cleanliness and maintenance, he didn't feel like wasting his breath.

Once upon a time, (20 years ago) the Pheasant Run Resort was a wonderful place to stay. It's really sad to see how much it's fallen into decline and the apathy of the staff and management. Our family won't be back.

******EDITED TO ADD: In response to the owner's reply, my last name differs from my husband's, which is why you cannot find my reservation. Once the charges from our stay have hard-posted to our account, I'll be contacting you, as you've requested.
