I don't know why but a really enjoy this place. From the original red banquettes and wood panelling I just dig the vibe. Theres only a limited number of steakhouses in the city and a couple of them feel a little uptight sometimes. Rae and Jerry's is the kind of place I can relax in and enjoy a good steak (Bonus in addition to having your steak cooked a certain way, you can also order the accompanying vegetable either crisp or soft - just keep in mind the default is soft!). Soup offerings are a little gluey so I tend to have the tomato juice with some Tabasco. Complimentary bread basket is great especially the salt crust dark rye. Favourite appetizers are the smoked salmon plate and classic shrimp cocktail. This place is a steakhouse so that's what they do best - steaks and prime rib. We order our steaks Chicago and they've always been great. Martinis are ice cold and desserts are large and easily shared. Service is friendly, knowledgeable and specially trained to carry those close to overflowing martinis! So overall not entirely perfect but in terms of an enjoyable evening out I always come away feeling good (and really quite stuffed).
