I'm rating this gym based on the cost and value for that cost. After going to 24 Hour Fitness for two years, I was pleasantly surprised about the quality this gym. My complaint about 24 Hour is 1) No wifi (& barely any reception) & 2) No AC & terrible ventilation. LA Fitness does have functioning AC and wifi. They have free, easy parking (whereas at 24 Hour you have to pay), and they have a lot of places to stretch & lots of cardio machines. I've been able to find the weights I need and the equipment I have wanted to use has been functional. Of course for me location is huge as the gym is walking distance from my home/work. I don't shower at this gym or use the lockers so can't comment on those things. I mostly use the cardio machines, free weights and stretching space. I have had no problems with the staff. I have noticed that people leave paper towels wadded up in the cup holders of the cardio machines and these don't get cleaned up. That means I have to touch their sweaty used paper towels which is gross. So, number one, they could have someone wiping those down more often; number two, I can't believe how inconsiderate and disgusting people can be; and number three, putting up signs asking people to throw away their "debris" might help. But overall the gym has what I need, has a far more spacious feel than the cramped, underground 24 Hour Fitness on Pico/Roxbury, has a pool, basketball courts and multiple classes. My friends like the spin classes there. The hours are great (they are even open till 2 on thanksgiving). For $30 a month I think it's a great deal & that you can get more if you pay more.
