Kumamoto University is a former system of Kumamoto Medical University, which presupposes "Kotokokan" "Reharukan" which goes back to the calendar year of the Edo period, and a former system of Kumamoto School of Pharmacy which presupposes "Kyogan" It is a national university that has been established to include the Kumamoto Normal School, the former Fifth Fifth High School, the Kumamoto High School of Technology, and the Kumamoto Youth Normal School (all in Kumamoto City). Currently, it has 7 undergraduate schools and 8 graduate schools (excluding research departments).
