My wife booked a routine allergy test for our son. The staff was great. The skin allergy test was completed quickly, and competently. Our allergy suspicions were confirmed by the end of the appointment.

Prior to the exam, I did a quick Google search for the cost of skin-allergy testing. It showed a range of $60-$300. Since we have Cigna PPO, I assumed our bill would be a portion of that price range. That is what I budgeted for.

I was shocked, to get a the bill of $1800! For a scheduled allergy appointment? This was not a surgery, or emergent procedure!
After insurance processing, my portion of the bill was $1000.

For a test that should cost a maximum of $300, I was financially unprepared for the amount charged, and my portion of that charge.

Lesson learned: Do not use Children's Hospital for routine exams/testing.
