We were fortunate that the day we decided to cross the bridge, it was clear and sunny, otherwise San Francisco can get quite foggy, with poor visibility. We crossed the bridge on food, with is less than 3 km walk. Alternately, one can rent a bike. However, there are no bike rentals at the foot of the bridge, and the closest bike rental would probably be at Fisherman s Wharf. The bridge is a marvel, the walk is refreshing, and the views are amazing. A must-do when in San Francisco!
