This was my experience yesterday with Sunset Hills Vineyard. If you are planning a special event DO NOT GO HERE. I sent this email to the owners and received no response. I was told by my limo company that they are NOTORIOUSLY UNFRIENDLY to any type of limo tours, so do not believe their website!
Dear Diane and Mike Canney,
I would like to express to you my EXTREME disapointment at the way my family was treated by your facility. We have often been to Sunset Hills and it was our first choice to bring our family to celebrate our youngest daughter's 21st birthday. My eldest daughter has been a wine club member in the past, and we have enjoyed many of your offerings. I verified before booking our limo transportation one month ago and was told that this date, today, June 2nd 2013 was fine for our family of 9 to come and that the limo was no problem. My eldest daughter verified this information AGAIN on Thursday May 30, 2013. Today I called before our limo pickup time to see if it was possible to reserve a table inside. I was told by your manager MEREDITH that we were unwelcome. I was told that our limo could not enter your property (and by the way, RESTON LIMO is the one recommended on your website. I was also told that you were having an event for 200 people (this was not told to us in any other communication if it had been I would have made plans elsewhere.) I was never told of your limo restriction. When the dispatcher from Reston Limo called your facility, we were told that we would be "drunk checked" and that we would not be let on your property if we had been determined "drunk". We were 7 adults all either in the military or medical professionals. We had our 21 year old daughter and her best friend with us. YOU DETERMINED THAT WE WERE A BUNCH OF DRUNKS out to make trouble for your winery without asking any questions. This was rude and incredibly insulting. Do you really think a Col. in the Army and an intensive care physician at Fairfax Hospital were out to be DRUNK? I think your staff has a prejudged prejudice based on the word "limo" and equates that with DRUNK BUS. For us, a limo was a fun treat and eliminated taking three cars. We could all talk and laugh together. Our intention was to have the wine tasting and then cake and go home. How dare you treat us like alcoholic idiots. As I said we are all in the military (GO ARMY) or medical professionals. We have a lot of friends who like wine. They will ALL know of this awful experience that almost ruined a fun celebratory day. My husband and I have owned a business for 22 years and I know that as a business owner I would fire someone on the spot who treated us that way we were handled throughout the month long process of contacts at your winery. I do understand the financial equation....200 paying guests deserve your full attention. If that would have been told to me upfront at the beginning of my contacts with you, I would have completely understood. Instead on the day of my little (albeit a 1K day for me)event I had to scramble. My daughter goes to VT with XXXXX, so I was able to make a quick call and lean on a friend to save the day for us. They were kind, gracious and polite to us at the very last minute. That cannot be said of your facility. This was a terribly stressful and insulting experience and I would hope that you take away from my comments how offensive our treatment was and retrain your employees to be more informed and sensitive. I must fault Reston Limo too, as they had our itinerary a month ago and never told us that you do not allow limos on the weekend. I shall take that issue up with them separately. If you wish to discuss this matter I would me most happy to.
